"Love is the way I walk in gratitude"
As one of the tens-of-thousands New Yorkers to catch the Coronavirus, and one of the very fortunate who have survived it, I was driven to create my first Post-Covid artwork series of hope and life in the gritty streets of Manhattan.
Using a variety of seashells, Mac Cosmetic powders and elements of nature, I set out in search for mandala designs to create this unique series; all inspired by my rebirth from Covid-19. Ancient Hindu scripture depict mandalas as a period of creativity, of powerful existence, and a symbol of deeper connection with the Self and the Universe at large.
The mandala designs I chose were manhole covers, which were ideal because they connected the city in a way nothing else could. Little did I know that fractals would take place within the art. The covers themselves being dark and with without life symbolized Covid-19, while the vivid Mac powders and organic seashells symbolized hope and life amid the darkness.
I wish to inspire hope and to offer healing to all. Brad Oliphant / 5 - 25 - 20
